RAZOR EATERS has generated an unprecendented number of media reports in all formats - print, radio, television - for its controversial shoot and subject matter.

Just like its Australian predecessors ROMPER STOMPER and CHOPPER, the film has attracted worldwide publicity.

A high-profile sequence was covered by Network Seven Nightly News and screened prime-time during a recent broadcast (see trailers). The story described RAZOR EATERS as 'a controversial new movie' and covered the execution of a house-explosion and blaze.

The Victoria Police Film & Television Office was the first of several conservative institutions to voice their disapproval of the gritty and confronting subject matter of the film. Despite the producers' consistent and diligent efforts to satisfy the department, the Film and Television Office made their objections apparent in a letter to the production (a censored version is re-produced here).

The Australian Newspaper picked up this David vs Goliath battle, and ran with it as a major story. In addition, nation-wide radio station Triple J conducted a live interview with producer Paul Moder. The station was suitably concerned over the attempted intervention by the Victoria Police into a creative project. Equally disgusted was vitriolic radio presenter Derryn Hinch who called into question the unwarranted disapproval of the subject matter of RAZOR EATERS by the department, and their obstructionist actions towards the production. An attempt by the Film & Television Office to convey their viewpoint with popular talk radio host Neil Mitchell later the same day was quickly countered by director Shannon Young.

The debate and controversy over RAZOR EATERS is certain to continue with future festival screenings and its imminent worldwide release.
